She decides to make the best of a bad situation, enlisting her two friends\u2014straight-arrow Carol (Joan Allen) and spirited Margene (Kathy Bates)\u2014to take the trip from Idaho to California for the funeral. When they miss their flight, they continue in Arvilla\u2019s late husband\u2019s cherry red Bonneville.
