I\u2019d had a silly, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.silvercentury.org\/2019\/04\/a-homemade-superstition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">personal superstition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: my Dad died at 84, and I thought I might do that too.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eighty-five arrived not only with a faint <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">frisson<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of relief but with loving phone calls from family and a flurry of emails, wishing me a happy birthday. The emails came from:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two friends<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Virgin Atlantic<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allstate Insurance<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AARP<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My dermatologist<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My audiologist<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My cardiologist<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My otolaryngologist<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medicalert<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you suppose the list says something about my age?
